Cruising to Seward
Kenai Fjord National Park is a highly popular national park with a vast amount of wildlife. The park sees over 330 million visitors each year, and works hard to preserve natural and cultural resources. The wildlife here is truly memorizing, with the wildest of animals surrounding the area such as humpbacks, grey whales, harbour seals, and even bears in the mountains above. Many activities are available within the park, such as kayaking and exploring the fjords by boat. There are great educational programs such as joining a park ranger for an interpretive talk, or a day hike to learn more about Kenai Fjords.
Hiking is a popular thing to do whilst in Seward, with some world-class trails such as the Mount Marathon Trail, a hike which has become well-known around the world. With the views and surroundings, a hike can quite simply be the best way to view Alaska’s wonderful natural beauty.
Seward also has a huge fishing industry, and is home to some of the tastiest fish. One place to try them is in The Cookery - an oyster bar style restaurant with refined seafood meals. It’s very fresh and the unexpected fish specials are a real treat to dinners. Another favourite in Seward is Ray’s Waterfront, another lovely seafood restaurant overlooking the harbour.
Cafes and coffee houses can be spotted all over Seward. A few favourites are a retro style café which was once a church, and has now been refurbished into Resurrect Art Coffee House. Also Nature’s Nectars and Sea Bean Café both have a relaxed atmosphere. They are great locations to stop and take in the views.
