Once known as Costa Europa and Thomson Dream, Marella Dream has been sailing the waves ever since the 80s and her ownership transferred to Thomson Cruises (now known as Marella Cruises) ' fleet in 2009. But while she's certainly been around a while, she more than holds her own against other more modern vessels, thanks to refurbishments that have left her with a state-of-the-art interior.
Capable of catering for up to 1533 passengers, this is a behemoth of a ship. The retro feel to the construction is easy on the eye, with a curvy appearance rather than a boxy one. A multi-million refit in 2012 saw new fixtures and fittings installed, including wonderfully soft carpets and teak flooring on certain decks. There's also plenty of space out on deck for lounging.
Where the dress code is concerned, it's casual wear during the day - predominantly consisting of jeans or shorts and T-shirts or sports tops. Smart casual comes into play during the evening, and there's one formal night when most of the passengers will take the opportunity to dress up. This is usually at the captain's gala cocktail party.
Like all Marella Cruises ships, you can expect the food to be great. The Orion Restaurant will be your main port of call for breakfast, lunch and six-course dinners, while fresh pastas and salads are served daily at Terrace Grill.
During the day, international buffets are served at Sirens, and themed 24-hour buffets can be enjoyed in the Lido Restaurant.
For a fancy night out, enjoy tasty cocktails and even swankier surroundings - the weekly cocktail parties are to die for!
As the sun begins to set, the Broadway Show Lounge hosts comedy tours and West End-style musicals in its two-storey lounge, while spotlight cabaret and live bands can be seen strutting their stuff in the Medusa Lounge.
Marella Dream features many great venues to enjoy live music, a cool cocktail or cappuccinos and cake. Be sure to check out Tides, Explorer's Lounge and The Coffee Port during your stay onboard.
The Water's Edge stays open late for after dinner drinks, casino games and dancing.
Other facilities include the casino, with its roulette and blackjack tables, a library, internet lounge, a Kidzone, a card room and more independent stores than you can shake a stick at.
While on the move, you may want to take advantage of Ocean's Spa and Beauty Salon, which offers makeovers, facials and deep tissue massages, while the Fitness Centre is fully equipped with running machines, free weights and space for aerobic classes.
The more active cruisers can head to the Sports Deck for a game of tennis, basketball, five-a-side football and volleyball.
