Viking Longship Modi

As one of ten new Viking Longships ships that were introduced in 2015, the Viking Longship Modi is one of the latest in Viking’s fleet of sleek and luxurious Longships, which cruise some of Europe’s most beautiful rivers. Along with its sisters, the Viking Longship Modi provides guests with memorable voyages that enrich and enthral. Focussing on one popular itinerary – the Grand European Tour – the Modi boasts the lines innovative engineering and design features, including eco-friendly hybrid engines that create a smoother ride and solar panels on the Sun Deck, that help to promote its ‘green’ ethos. From the atrium-like lobby, swathed in natural light, to the well-appointed staterooms and suites onboard, Viking haven’t cut any corners; meaning that guests onboard can enjoy utmost luxury and comfort when cruising, from beginning to end.

Guests onboard tend to hail from the USA and UK, and have a desire to embrace European culture, history and heritage. While the majority of guests are mature and well-travelled, the contemporary air of the Longships does attract slightly younger holidaymakers too. There’s a maximum capacity of 190 passengers and 50 crew members onboard. Attentive service is a given, with a dedicated Cruise Director also available at every step. The Viking Daily newsletter will also help to prepare all passengers for the following day’s activities, and is delivered to every stateroom, every evening.

The main restaurant onboard can be found on the Middle Deck, and features floor-to-ceiling windows which allow guests to view the breathtaking landscapes at the same time as enjoying breakfast, lunch and dinner. A wide variety of excellent prepared food options are available during all three services, from cereals, meats and eggs at breakfast, and salads and soups for lunch, to a five-course fine dining menu for dinner. Regional wines, beers, soft drinks and water are complimentary with lunch and dinner, and hot beverages are available 24 hours a day from the self-serve station, also free of charge. Guests can choose to upgrade to a Silver Spirits beverage package, which includes fine wines and premium spirits, either in advance of their cruise or onboard. Alternatively, guests can choose to dine al-fresco at the Aquavit Terrace, at the bow of the ship, which offers early riser breakfasts as well as casual bites for lunch and dinner – plus items cooked on the grills. Dress code is country club casual, with many guests choosing dressier attire for evening meals – particularly the slightly more formal welcome and farewell dinners.

Grab a comfortable chair and relax with a drink in the Observation Lounge, before enjoying the low-key entertainment that can be appreciated as part of your itinerary. Local performers will often come onboard to demonstrate local music and dance, and there is also a resident pianist for days when local acts aren’t scheduled.

There is a diverse range of carefully chosen activities and shore excursions included with every voyage, which are all inkeeping with the itinerary chosen. Wander Viennese markets, make your own coffee in Rudesheim am Rhein or sign up to one of the many sightseeing tours which will give you the opportunity to fully appreciate the beauty of the riverside towns and ports. Onboard, guests can learn about their destinations with expert lectures and presentations, as well as enjoying varied activities to keep them busy when not exploring the port. Books, board games and jigsaws are also available from the library corner, and complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the ship will allow guests to stay in touch with friends and family back home. There’s also an onboard boutique if you fancy a bit of retail therapy.

There are 95 staterooms and suites onboard, which vary in size between 135 sq. ft. and 445 sq. ft.
