Cruising to Hong Kong

Asia's world city. As a Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China, not to mention a former British colony, Hong Kong is one of the most culturally diverse and cosmopolitan cities not just in Asia, but the world. Known for its high-rise buildings, glitzy lifestyle, heaving streets and rich culinary heritage, it's the type of place that truly bombards the senses, with so much to see, hear, smell and taste at every turn. If you're visiting as part of a cruise, you won't have time to see or do everything that Hong Kong has to offer, so you need to make sure you choose your activities wisely. For some, getting stuck into the hustle and bustle can seem a little too much, so heading to one of Hong Kong's many stunning beaches may be the thing for you if rest and relaxation is what you're after. Hung Shing Yeh Beach, for example, is located on Lamma Island and is perhaps the most popular place in town to catch some rays, although the inappropriately named Repulse Bay is also a great spot to head to. To discover some of Hong Kong's history and culture, make a beeline for the Hong Kong Museum of History or the Hong Kong Museum of Art, both of which do more or less what it says on the tin. Other excellent exhibition centres include the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre and the Hong Kong Science Museum. Another thing that this amazing destination is famous for is its food, with specialities like Dim Sum and other Cantonese dishes being among the most popular local delicacies. Street markets are excellent for trying some of these, although there's also the option to head to some of Hong Kong's many swanky restaurants if you'd like to experience something a little more refined.
