Glenn Wallis

glenn wallis

Glenn has had a longstanding career involving travel, working overseas for twenty years and spending the last decade onboard cruise ships. Sailing with Ocean Village, P&O Cruises, P&O Australia and Cruise and Maritime Voyages, he has been privileged to experience some wonderful destinations across the globe for free!

Since returning home Glenn has matched several cruisers with their dream holiday as Senior Sales Executive for Planet Cruise. With first hand cruise knowledge and with his eyes and ears on the busy sales floor, Glenn knows a great cruise deal when he sees one.

We asked Glenn...what's your favourite cruise port?

My favourite cruise port is Cape Town in South Africa – I love the buzz of the V&A waterfront, the fantastic views of Table Mountain and the fabulous steaks and great prices!

We asked Glenn for his cruise top tip....

If you see a cruise you love, happy with the price and it ticks all the right boxes – just book it – don’t delay. Live life to the max!

Shaun Ryan

Shaun Ryan

Shaun has presented on the shopping Channel Ideal World for over 15 years and is the only original presenter still on the team. He has clocked up over 10,000 hours of live presenting but his favourite show to host is, of course, the “Planet Cruise TV Show”.

Before working for Ideal World, Shaun had numerous performing jobs including professional pantomime at Brighton’s Theatre Royal, touring with the late Eartha Kitt, presenting live roadshows for London's Capital FM and even singing in a boy band (quite badly by his own admission!)

Born in York, Shaun loves Yorkshire and regularly visits his family there, but left to study in London in the 90’s. He trained at Mountview theatre school and also has a BA honours degree in performance arts. In his spare time he loves nothing more than gardening and booking cruise holidays!

We asked Shaun...what's your favourite cruise port?

Definitely Miami. I have cruised from here more times than any other port. The weather has always been great and I always stay pre-cruise for a couple of days there. I love the buzz of South Beach, the great outdoor dining and the fabulous original Art Deco architecture.

Southampton comes a close second, not because of the weather! But because it is so so easy, especially if you stay at the Meon Valley Marriott hotel the night before.

We asked Shaun for his top cruise tip...

If your cruise ship offers flexible dining and you haven’t tried it yet - give it a go. It’s great to not have to worry about being ready for a set fixed dining time. Also, you get to sit in different areas of the dining room and with other people or with new friends should you wish.

Keith Maynard

Keith Maynard

Born into a family of vicars, there was more than a little surprise when Keith chose Drama School over theology at Cambridge. 3 years later and he was already nurturing his love of travel through touring up and down the UK with Cragrats Theatre before a chance meeting in a freezing cold Yorkshire green room was to change his life forever.

2 months later in March 2000 he walked onboard his first cruise ship, the MS Sundream in Southampton and embarked on a career that took him round the world... Several times!

After 6 fantastic years as a cruise director for Thomson Cruises, in 2010 he was asked to join Cunard and served as the Entertainment Director on all three current Queens, the highlight of which was interviewing the late, great Sir David Frost! Since 2013, Keith has been busy pursuing his career on dry land, which has included presenting the Planet Cruise TV Show.

A cruiser himself, Keith also occasionally hosts special Cruise with Keith sailings exclusively arranged through Planet Cruise.

We asked Keith...what's your favourite cruise port?

Probably the hardest question you could ever ask me! It could be the yellow trams and custard tarts of Lisbon or the near ethereal experience of sailing into the water filled volcano we know as Santorini. I could wax lyrical about the thrill of sailing the Panama Canal with its quite unbelievable locks that seem to defy the laws of physics…I would love to chat about the magic of seeing humpback whales play in the shallow waters of the Hawaiian Islands or the pleasure of watching the Nutcracker in St Petersburg.

I feel terrible for not sharing my experiences sailing out of New York along the craggy lobster rich coast of New England and then witnessing the Aura Borealis as we made our merry way down the St Lawrence River into Quebec… and worst of all, I’ll never forgive myself for not mentioning how special it is to experience a live performance of Cuban Dancing and music on the decks of your ship smoking a big fat cigar as you overlook the crumbling remains of Havana…I hope I’ve made my point.

So it's with all this in mind that I have to say my favourite port is Southampton...because no matter where I have been or will go…There's simply no place like home.

We asked Keith for his top cruise tip...

Always plan and book your tours before you embark the ship. It will save you money because they’re cheaper if booked earlier and time because you will be drinking cocktails rather than having to sit through the port presentations or stand in the cue to book them.

Planet Cruise TV - Justin Hazell

Justin Hazell

Justin began his working life in hotels and stately homes in the UK before heading off to sea. He spent 7 years with P&O Cruises traversing the world – from the humble beginnings of running the Shuffleboard and Deck Quoits competitions to becoming Deputy Cruise Director.

5 ships, 3 maiden seasons and hundreds of ports in between; Justin has appeared on the Planet Cruise TV show to share his first-hand experience of life at sea, top tips for travellers and the latest cruise deals.

We asked Justin...what's your favourite cruise port?

There are too many! In the Mediterranean, it would have to be Villefranche. Just a stone’s throw from Nice and Monte Carlo it’s home to some fantastic little authentic bakeries and the best Caprese salad you’ll ever try.

In the Caribbean – I’d have to say Barbados. This was our turnaround port every two weeks so it felt like home. Great beaches, water-sports at ‘The Boatyard’…oh and for nightlife – try St Lawrence Gap – so many good nights there.

Not forgetting the Baltic, which is really tough because everywhere is stunning – Norway has some of the freshest air ever! Bergen has to be my favourite, pretty buildings, traveller friendly and the weekly fish market is worth a look. If you like walking, take the funicular railway into the mountains for a hike through the forest. Handy tip though – book a guide or tour – I didn’t, got lost and nearly didn’t make it back to the ship on time! All in good fun though.
