In Viaggio in Canada

Canada's Atlantic coastline is an area of incredible natural beauty, and its cities are equally charming. From the French ambience of Québec, to Halifax on the Nova Scotia peninsula, each of Canada’s coastal cities has something unique and special to offer its visitors.

The city of Québec is absolutely unique—it has all the appearance and atmosphere of a French city, and as you listen to the locals, most of whom speak both French and English, it’s easy to forget that you are in fact on Canada’s eastern coast. Soak up the ambience on a walking tour of Québec, to experience the unique character of its upper and lower town districts, and the historic area of Old Québec, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with stone buildings and narrow cobblestone streets, still surrounded by the centuries-old stone wall fortifications that once protected the old city.

The bay in which Halifax, Nova Scotia, is situated is the second-largest natural harbour in the world, and the coastline in this part of Canada is truly impressive, with the imposing granite cliffs of Peggy’s Cove, a 200-year-old fishing village. Halifax is a gorgeous, green town, with tree-lined streets and quiet public gardens, and Canada’s wide blue sky topping it all off. There are some interesting maritime museums to visit here, or if you prefer to spend your time in Halifax enjoying the outdoors, touring the city, or visiting Peggy’s Point Lighthouse. One of the most interesting places to visit is Lunenburg, an 18th century British Colonial settlement that will have you feeling as though you’ve stepped back in time.

Canada is beautiful in every season, but if you are willing to brave the sometimes-chilly temperatures, visiting in the autumn months gives you the chance to see some of the most stunning foliage displays North America has to offer. In summer the coastal areas can reach up to 25 degrees Celsius during the day, while in winter, the temperature typically remains sub-zero, even during the day.
