Amazon River, Brazil

Cruising to Amazon River

The world's largest river in terms of water volume, the Amazon is also the most mysterious and iconic on the planet, running from its source high in the Andes to the Atlantic coast of South America. Along the way, it passes through the dense Amazon jungle, which is home to the greatest diversity of wildlife on earth, as well as being steeped in myth and legend.

Many an explorer has met their untimely end in this fascinating and exhilarating part of the world, although these days there are some rather safer and more comfortable ways to visit the Amazon, with a river cruise being the most luxurious method of doing so.

As you make your way down the Amazon, you'll have the chance to see some amazing animals, including the famous pink river dolphins, as well as an array of brightly-coloured birds and, if you're lucky, perhaps even a jaguar or two lurking in the forest that surrounds the river itself.

On top of this, you'll encounter some incredible culture, meeting some of the tribal communities that call the Amazon home and gaining an insight into their traditional way of life.
