Disney World Florida: EPCOT

disney world epcot

EPCOT (which stands for Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow) was the second of the four Florida parks to have opened in Walt Disney World, in 1982. Walt Disney originally wanted it to be a futuristic living space for people all over the world, but after he passed away the company decided they wouldn’t go on with his plan without his guidance and changed the concept. Now it is a place where cultures of the world are celebrated in fantastic lakeside pavilions, where we can learn about nature and the world around us, and futuristic concepts are put on show.

The park is split into two sections which show some of the cultures of the world as well as futuristic ideas.

Attractions

Future World

At the entrance of the park you’ll find Future World, with all kinds of space-age attractions like Mission: Space, Spaceship Earth inside the giant ball, and Test Track. You can meet characters like Sadness and Joy from Inside Out and Baymax from Big Hero 6. You can take to the air in Soarin’ or take to the seas with Nemo and friends. You could even chat with Crush the sea turtle! Be sure to check out ‘Living with the Land’, where you’ll explore EPCOT’s greenhouses, complete with fish, exotic plants, and huge fruits. You can even get a glimpse into the labs where real research is being conducted.

Tip: Bring your walking shoes! A stroll around the World Showcase is quite a trek. This in conjunction with the lack of rides unfortunately means it’s not often a favourite with younger children.
