Disney World Florida: Hollywood Studios

Disney World Florida: Hollywood Studios

Hollywood Studios, formerly MGM Studios, is a park centred on the magic of movies, TV, music, theatre, and the wonder of Hollywood. It first opened in 1989, with the name change occurring in 2008. Over the years attractions have changed and been added to, but firm favourites like the ‘Beauty and the Beast’ show have remained. Here’s a rundown on everything you can expect in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Fun fact: There are 18 different booths in Hollywood Studios where you can get an intricate design pressed into a penny.

Hollywood Studios Main Attractions

Rock 'n' Roller Coaster

This fantastic, adrenaline-pumping rollercoaster will leave you wanting to go on it again and again. It’s essentially a fast-paced limo ride through LA, with Aerosmith’s biggest hits providing the exciting soundtrack. Don’t forget to smile for the camera as the coaster speeds from 0 to 57mph in just 3.8 seconds.

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride is tall enough that it can be seen for miles around, just like the main Sleeping Beauty Castle in Magic Kingdom. On this ride you’ll learn the chilling tale of a family tragedy and take a terrifying plunge as you follow their story.

Toy Story Land

Hollywood Studios now also boasts Toy Story Land, where visitors are transported to the world of Andy’s toys. This area features brilliant attractions including a rollercoaster called Slinky Dog Dash, Toy Story Mania - a spinning point and shoot game, and the Alien Swirling Saucers. For lunch or a snack head to Woody’s Lunch Box, and remember to keep an eye out for all your favourite toys.

Star Tours

This action-packed simulator ride takes you on a Star Wars adventure in which you’ll navigate the galaxy in an escaped 'Star Tours' vessel, with the help of C3-PO. It’ll feel like a thorough, first-hand experience in outer space, as you notice every turn and dip along the way. Keep an eye out for some familiar faces . . .

Tip: Ride Star Tours more than once. The ride is designed so that you rarely have the same experience twice.

Shows in Hollywood Studios

There are a number of shows available for you to watch throughout the day, from sing-along entertainment to interactive experiences.

For musical lovers, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration’ have multiple show times throughout the day. ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is a 25 minute performance for all ages featuring all your favourite songs from the hit film. ‘For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration’ is a funny 30 minute show delivered by the two hilarious royal historians of Arendelle. You can sing along with Elsa, Anna, and Olaf.

There are also plenty of Star Wars shows and activities, like opportunities to meet BB-8, Chewbacca, and Kylo Ren at the Launch Bay. Also, hang around and catch the March of the First Order, where Captain Phasma leads her troops through the Launch Bay and towards the stage for a quick display. Showing on the same stage a little later is ‘Star Wars: A Galaxy Far, Far Away’, presented by your favourite droids, C3-PO and R2-D2. Enter your little ones into ‘Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple’, an interactive show, and watch as they wield their very own lightsaber and train alongside a Jedi.

You can also get involved in the ‘Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular’, where you’ll become an extra in a high action scene just like in the movies.

Don’t forget ‘Fantasmic’, a show starring Mickey as the sorcerer’s apprentice. You’ll be a part of his magical dream as he battles villains and invites his friends to join in the fun. The show involves a mix of fireworks, lasers, and music, along with special surprises for the audience.

Where to Eat in Hollywood Studios

There are lots of places to eat in the park, with food and designs to suit all visitors. Favourites include the 50’s Prime Time Café, a 50’s where the waiters treat you like family; a 50's themed restaurant made to look just like Mama's kitchen. As well as other restaurants and casual cafes there are plenty of snack-carts around for something a little smaller.
