Good cruise, no issues with food, service or ship. We missed the call to Lisbon due to industrial action in the port, which was unfortunate as Lisbon is always a highlight but not P and O's fault. Weather in ports very good for thisd time of year, a storm and missing Lisbon meant we got back to Southampton a day early.
Boarding was chaotic. Clientele demographics changing for the worse. PO not helping as fail to ensure rules are adhered to. Families with young children in main restaurants at dinner. The children are tired and should be in bed not crying in restaurants. They should be allocated a specific venue or area within the restaurant. Children in hot tubs under the age of 8yrs with nappies and for excessive periods. No enforcement by crew. Potentially a health and safety issue.
As always the Iona was excellent. However we did experience a lot of hold ups when we arrived at the port. So many people having to wait to get into the departure lounge. What didn't help was it was raining very hard. This was the first time that we have experienced this.
We have just returned from a 14nt canary Spain & Lisbon cruise. We have cruised with P&O before but found this ship too big, there was queuing for everything all the restaurants and the shows every time you tried to book a table for any restaurant or for the three shows at night there were limited spaces. The food was very good but always very busy. We found the ship quite noisy and a lot of rocking around for such a big ship on certain days even though stabilisers were deployed. Our port of call to Lisbon was cancelled and no other options were made to us, and due to the captain’s concerns with bad weather back into Southampton we were forced to dock in Southampton on early Friday afternoon and then not allowed to leave the ship until 9. 30am the following day due to port authority rules. We were disappointed in the ships onboard booking app and wouldn’t book for Iona or a similar size ship again.
I felt the Ship was too big especially for older people to negotiate. Also difficult to book a meal as you had to get on a virtual queue and wait for a table which made it difficult to book theatre etc as one didn’t know what time you would eat. Couldn’t really use swimming pools as mostly full of adults with children so no actual room to swim. Entertainment was good, bars very nice. Decour was lovely. Shops were good although a little expensive at times. No courtesy buses at ports which l expected, especially for folks that couldn’t walk very far. Paid Select price so expected more. Our cabins were not mid ship as told but on the cusp of forward. Also lift didn’t take us directly to restaurant as told by your Rep. Although l enjoyed most of the holiday it was very hard work for the rest of my party. Disembarkation was terrible with no help despite booking Assistance.
When we first embark Iona we were taken for a loyalty lunch, if you could call it that. It was just a glorified buffet with drinks. Compare that to going on Ventura in September when we had a full three course dinner. Iona needs to buck its ideas up.
Great to get some winter sun. Staff great, ship beatiful very easy to find your way round, will definately cruise on her agaim
We loved Iona and it's fast becoming our 2nd Home!!
Embarkation was fairly quick, the line kept moving, the ship is gorgeous and was getting decked out for Christmas, our balcony cabin on deck 12 was fantastic, the bed was really comfortable, we found food to be a bit hit and miss, very few vegetables, food seemed to be hot or just warm
Relaxed. No problems. Single traveller. Hoping to get involved a bit more with things on and off ship but it was OK. 2nd time on iona and chilled as knew where things were cos previous experience. All good.
