Ship has been given a good upgrade. pizzas in the evening in the Mediteranean were excellent. V friendly staff. food is better than before. We had premium drinks package. But poor wine choices. some waiters in different bars were relluctant to find our requested drinks by going to a nearby location for the right tonic water. Cabin stewards were perfect for cabin 9224. great towel displays! Anna, James and Alakin (sorry about the spelling)
We enjoyed cruising with Marella Explorer. At this time of the year the weather was perfect in the Caribbean islands. The itinerary was intense: 11 ports of call during 14 days cruise which was great. The ship is quite old but looks ok. We liked the shows a lot, would be good to see the orchestra on the stage more, but the singers and dancers, costumes and decorations were amazing. We found food in the restaurants to be not as high standard as on other ships (that's the main reason we put '4' and not '5' rating), although if you pay extra, you would get delicious meals in the Steak & Turf and Sushi restaurants. It's convenient to have complimentary drinks included (and tips too). The staff were all very welcoming and the captain with a good sense of humour :-). The organisation everywhere was very efficient: boarding, restaurants (no queues, always get table for 2), lots of space everywhere for everyone. We will consider cruising with Marella again in the future.
The food in latitude 53 was very bland but the other restaurants were much better. Not sure about the premium drinks package, seemed to get the same drinks as people not on it. Crew were amazing, overall had a marvellous time.
Marella Explorer is a lovely ship friendly staff, excellent drinks and tasty food and good entertainment. Would recommend it. Downside It was not a pleasant return transfer We put the dots on our luggage outside and was told to go through for the coach. When we got there nobody was helpful, the staff organising people getting on their coach for other destinations, could not be bothered with us We were there on time and there was no one waiting for any coaches Eventually we were told we missed the transfer. Omg this was so stressful because we thought we would miss the flight We got a cab in the end and paid for this The driver was brilliant and got us to the airport on time. This home trip was very stressful Other holiday makers were saying the same thing it was a nightmare
Not a cruise line to use if you enjoy a nice dining experience, food was bland, with almost raw potatoes. And was often served cold. The ice cream in the market place you could drink it was that watery. The showcase performances were very good and some other good singers and bands onboard.
Crew were great, as always. Plenty to do. Huge balcony.
Been on this ship before and always think its a shame there is no wow factor Atrium or indoor pool like other ones . Been on all Marella ships except Voyage. Still great service staff ect
If you like a smaller ship and value for money Marella are a great choice!
It was a brilliant first cruise experience. The staff were amazing, right down to the maintenance staff you might pass in the corridor. The cabins were made up twice a day by a team of incredible housekeeping. The food was incredible, especially in Latitude 53, Vista and the Italian Med restaurants.
Brilliant ship.
