When Freedom of the Seas was launched in 2006 she was officially the largest cruise ship in the world and was the first of the Freedom class ships. Her sister ships, Independence of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas later joined her. The Freedom of the Seas is thought of as a ‘city at sea’ with so much to do on board that guests often do not even want to leave the ship.
At the heart of the ship is Royal Caribbean’s famous Royal Promenade, an American mall style promenade lined with shops, restaurants and live entertainment. When you enter this area of the ship, it is hard to imagine you are actually in the middle of the ocean. The promenade is also a popular venue for organised street parties, live music and other events.
Freedom of the Seas was the first ship to introduce the H2O zone, an onboard water park area for children. The sort of place that children dream of, it includes a child’s whirlpool, water sprinklers and swimming pools. Parents can lounge on the sun chairs right next to this area so they can keep a watchful eye on their children whilst enjoying the sun.
On the sports and pool deck, the Freedom was the first ship to introduce the Flowrider, surf simulator. Imagine surfing in the middle of the ocean? Well now it’s possible! Fun to be had for the whole family, a ride on the Flowrider is a must.
For the more relaxed cruiser, Freedom of the Seas offers the ultimate heavenly experience boasting two cantilevered whirlpools that stretch out over the ocean. Located close to the spa, you can also stop in for a signature treatment after.
Freedom of the Seas has recently gone through an upgrade as part of Royal Caribbean’s Royal Advantage program. New features onboard include the addition of a 3D cinema, outdoor movie screen, ship-wide WiFi and a new nursery.
