mv Voyager

Please note - Voyages of Discovery is no longer in operation as of January 2017.

Weighing in at 15,721 tons, the 540 passenger mv Voyager barely registers as a drop in the ocean compared to some of its larger counterparts these days. That's a good thing though. Not only do you experience a more intimate cruising style that is extremely welcome, but the smaller size also aids the itineraries that mv Voyager can carry out.

Recent technical upgrades have seen more balcony cabins added, and 87 per cent of the accommodation has an outside view. There are 270 cabins in all and they're all suitably spacious.

The focus of the itineraries is on visiting smaller, out-of-the-way ports, and this theme has been carried across to the decor as well. Across the ship, you'll find all sorts of homages to famous adventurers. The staff are friendly and helpful and more than happy to bring a smile to the faces of the passengers.

There are two restaurants aboard the Voyager, not counting the pre-bookable speciality restaurant. The Explorer Club, which you may want to consider for special occasions, here you will find a certain swish ambiance thanks to the extraordinary windows.

Breakfast is served at the usual hours and consists of the normal affair - croissants, meat, fish and fruit - while dinners are a more exciting occasion with a range of speciality dishes. The Verandah Restaurant is a particularly swish affair as diners are able to eat al fresco.

The evenings are perhaps the best time to be aboard the mv Voyager. Scott's Lounge is a particularly lovely place to be, drinking cocktails while live piano music wafts across the room. A new dual purpose Bridge Club is also worth checking out if you like that sort of thing, and the venue is also used for guest speakers and lecturers on the local area.

During the day, the Lookout Lounge is a great place to be for when you're coming into port as you'll be treated to panoramic views from the front of the ship. In-cabin entertainment isn't too shabby either, with the installation of digital media players allowing guests to access a variety of films, classical concerts and documentaries.
