Norwegian Gem

Ship statistics;

Norwegian Gem is a Jewel Class ship from Norwegian Cruise Line. At 965 feet she’s a big beauty, with passenger capacity of up to 2,394 and 1,101 crew members. The name of the game on the Jewel class of ships is choice, and passengers have the freedom to choose from a wide range of accommodation options when booking their cruises, and once on board, from an even larger selection of activities, dining venues, and entertainment options.

Accommodation types include interior staterooms, exterior with a choice of two window types, and exterior with private balcony—and passengers can even choose from aft, mid-ship, and forward staterooms. The suite options are just as extensive, with mini-suites and full-size penthouse suites available, and the ultra-luxurious Haven deluxe suites with private courtyard or garden, and access to an exclusive butler and concierge service.

Norwegian Gem offers several different cruises throughout the year.  Spend the summer cruising to the Bahamas and Florida for popular ports of call such as Port Canaveral, Grand Bahama Island, and Nassau. See the spectacular fall foliage of Canada and New England in the autumn, with visits to ports in Quebec, Nova Scotia, and Maine, as well as the city of Boston. During the winter months, Norwegian Gem heads to the Caribbean to ports in Mexico, Belize, Barbados, and Columbia.

Norwegian Cruise Line conducted major refurbishments across its fleet under the Norwegian Edge project in 2015 and 2016. Norwegian Gem entered drydock in November 2015 and emerged with exciting refreshments from a renovated Haven Courtyard and Sundeck to a new photo gallery, renovated Bliss Ultra Lounge with a new area for Casino facilities and much more.

Fabulous options for all kinds of food are the mainstay on board the Norwegian Gem, with everything from juicy burgers to succulent sushi. The ship has two main dining rooms—the Grand Pacific and the Magenta—which serve the standard meal options for lunch and dinner. There are several specialty restaurants, too; book your table at Le Bistro for classic French dishes, the Orchid Garden for sushi and sashimi, or an exciting teppanyaki experience with superbly skilled chefs. Head to Cagney’s or the Moderno for two very different steakhouse experiences, or traditional Italian fare at La Cucina. There’s also the highly entertaining Presumed Murdered Luncheon, a midday meal where the help of guests is enlisted to solve a murder mystery.

There are several casual dining options too, at the 24-hour Bali Hai Bar & Grill, as well as the Garden Café, the Blue Lagoon food court, and 24-hour room service.

There’s a virtually never-ending list of things to do on board the Norwegian Gem, whether you’re the highly active type always looking for a new experience, or someone who loves to relax and enjoy some pampering. With a fitness centre, outdoor jogging track, and tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts it’s easy to get your daily exercise in, but if you’d rather spend a few hours getting a massage, sauna, or a luxurious beauty treatment, head to the Yin and Yang Spa & Beauty Salon. Get some quiet time in the library or art gallery, rest up, and get ready for the evening’s entertainment.

At night, the ship’s extensive range of bars, lounges, and entertainment venues are alive with music, singing, and dancing. The Stardust Theatre is the place to go for fantastic musical performances, as well as a range of variety acts, but there’s something going on each night in nearly every bar, whether it’s live music, pub quizzes, or movie screenings.
