Methodology
This dataset contains 2 rankings. One ranks 8 UK locations, and the other ranks 16 international locations based on how good they are for a spring wellness retreat. To do this, 8 different factors were used. Once the data for the factors was collected, the factors were then normalised to provide each factor with a score between 0 and 1. If data was not available, a score of 0 was given. The normalised values were then summed and multiplied to give each location a total score out of 100. The locations were then ranked from highest to lowest, based on their total scores.
The factors used were as follows:
- Spas – The number of TripAdvisor results under the 'Spas' category in each location. Yoga and Pilates studios – The number of TripAdvisor results under the 'Yoga and Pilates' category in each location.
- Health and fitness clubs – The number of TripAdvisor results under the 'Health/Fitness Clubs and Gyms' category in each location.
- Thermal baths – The number of TripAdvisor results under the 'Thermal Baths' category in each location.
- Hiking routes – The number of hiking trails listed on AllTrails, in each location.
- Average temperature – The annual average temperature in each location.
- Average sun hours – The average daily sun hours in each location.
- Average rainfall – The average monthly rainfall in each location, in millimetres.
The factors were then indexed as follows:
All data is correct as of 14/04/25. The ranking data shown is a compilation of multiple data sources and may not be representative of real life. All data is accurate with regard to the sources provided. Certain factors e.g., average temperature, were gathered using data for a city/town in each location, this data is then used for the location.
