Carnival Sunrise

Previously sailing throughout the nineties and noughties as Carnival Triumph, this Carnival Cruises ship underwent a massive refurbishment in 2018, to re-emerge as Carnival Sunrise. Under this new name, today she sails as one of the world’s most thrilling cruise ships, with so much onboard that it would be a near-miracle to sample everything in just one holiday. She boasts almost twenty different dining venues, a wide variety of bars and lounges, entertainment to suit all tastes, and activities galore.

No matter what your palette desires at any given mealtime, you can rest assured that Carnival Sunrise will competently deliver. If you are travelling with a group with a variety of people – maybe you have little ones with fussier tastes, or folks with allergies – choose the main restaurant or Lido buffet for a wide range of different cuisines. On the other hand, if you are adventurous diners who enjoy trying dishes from all over the world, there’s Bonsai Sushi for Japan’s iconic dish, the Seafood Shack for a fresh taste of New England, Cucina del Capitano and Pizza del Capitano for trusty Italian fare, or Chopsticks for a taste of China.

For a really special evening onboard, be sure to make a reservation for The Chef’s Table. Here, culinary geniuses have curated a superb menu of creative plates, each served with perfectly paired wine. Service is extra-attentive here, thanks to dining groups being no more than 14 guests.

Other choices include the Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse for a succulent cut of beef, or seafood dish, BlueIguana Cantina for classic Mexican cuisine, Guy’s Burger Joint for mouth-watering fast food, and Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Cue for rich smoky meats. Plus of course, there’s always room service if you simply don’t feel like going out and about.

Evenings onboard the ship can be as on-the-go or relaxed as you like. If you simply want to sit with a drink with a little live background music and good conversation, there are a number of bars and lounges to choose from. Some favourites include the Red Frog Rum Bar, which has a sunny Caribbean feel with gentle live reggae music, the Alchemy Bar with its creative cocktails and contemporary atmosphere, and of course the Sky Box Sports Bar where guests can catch up on popular sports.

On the other hand, if you are one who likes a slightly more lively scene, there’s a fabulous night club onboard where you can socialise and dance the night away, a glamourous casino at which you can try your luck at a range of gambling games, and also a karaoke bar which provides hours of giggles and good times. The Mega Deck Parties are also a very popular event, offering cruisers the chance to mingle together with good food, music, and drinks.

Another option would be to go to one of the comfortable venues where you can simply sit back and be entertained for a few hours. Aside from the poolside Dive-In movies, you could see an impressive theatrical show with Playlist Productions, see some amusing comics at the Punchliner Comedy Club, and see various pop-up entertainment while lounging in the atrium. There’s also Hasbro, The Game Show – an interactive event in which guests can play giant versions of some classic board games.

Carnival Sunrise offers plenty of opportunities to stay fit and active during your cruise. You’ll find a spacious gym with state-of-the-art equipment and beautiful views, plus spaces for invigorating exercise classes such as yoga. There’s also an outdoor jogging track, which can be used for fast-paced running or even just a simple morning walk to start your day in a refreshing way.

After a tough work out, or even a full day out in port, why not treat yourself by making use of the gorgeous Cloud 9 Spa. As well as a menu of fabulous therapies such as massages and facials, there are some wonderfully tranquil spaces where you can simply relax. Similarly, the ship boasts the Serenity Adult-Only Retreat. This child-free area is ideal for anyone wanting to escape the business of other onboard areas. The Hair and Beauty Salon is also available, for anyone wanting to book in some pampering.

As well as all the choice when it comes to how to spend evenings onboard Carnival Sunrise, cruisers also have a lot of decisions to make regarding what to do during the day. Suffice to say, any sea-days during your cruise holiday will be just as fun-filled as days in port – perhaps even more so.

Indoor Activities on Carnival Sunrise

  • Video Arcade – find classic games plus some new appearances to try
  • Art exhibition – browse art and attend seminars, auctions, and quizzes
  • Shopping – onboard boutiques stock cuddly toys, sweets, clothing and luxury jewellery
  • Outside Activities on Carnival Sunrise

    Alternatively, if all you want to do is be outside making the most of sunnier climes, there is an abundance of outdoor activities to try;

  • Kid’s Activities on Carnival Sunrise

    In addition to all these options, there are plenty of kids-only activities. The onboard kid’s clubs cater for young cruises aged between 2 and 17, with games and activities being split up into different age ranges. Think kiddie discos, arts and crafts, board games, video games, movies and music. There is also a babysitting service – Night Owls – where parents can leave their little ones if they could do with an evening out alone.

    Thanks to Carnival Cruises’ collaboration with the folks at Dr Seuss, there are a great many things to do with Dr Seuss at Sea. These include the themed Green Eggs and Ham breakfast, Seuss-a-palooza story time, and the Seuss-a-palooza Parade. Little ones can join in and meet all the characters while having fun meeting others their own age.
