Cruising to Girona (Roses)

Seaside charm aplenty

A visit to the Catalan town of Rosas will leave you relaxed, charmed and keen to return. Located just north of Girona, the laid-back easy-going Spanish atmosphere permeates every corner of the pleasant harbour.

You'll undoubtedly want to do a bit of sightseeing, and there are certainly historical locations worth visiting. Head along to the Ciutadella de Rosas, all that remains of an ancient town that stood proud centuries ago.

Also worth a visit is the surveying fortification Castell de la Trinitat, which was constructed on the orders of Charles V in 1543 to stand against privateers from North Africa.

Culture-wise, it is worth remembering that Catalanian people are remarkably proud of their heritage and there is a strong desire to be recognised as an independent nation. You may witness demonstrations to this effect during your time here.

The currency is the euro and, while Catalan will be the first language of many here, Spanish is almost universally spoken. English is also common thanks to the fact Rosas is a resort town.
