Indeed, it's virtually car-free, and other than the small whitewashed houses that dot the island's hills, its entire landscape is pretty much unblemished by development of any kind.
This makes it an excellent place for those who want to do little other than relax in the glorious Greek sunshine, without having to worry about the stresses and strains that can sometimes accompany visits to more bustling destinations.
Yet that's not to say there's nothing to do in Hydra, as the island has some memorable sites. Among these is the stunning cathedral, while the Museum of Hydra is also well worth a visit, and provides an insight into some of the local folklore.
There are also a few great swimming spots dotted around the island, the best and most popular of which are Spilia and Vlihos, although be warned that there aren't any sandy beaches to relax on - just a few pebbly stretches of coast.
