With a full-length voyage stopping in more than two dozen different ports, it’s no wonder that fresh, tasty food is the mainstay of MS Nordlys' menu. The menu changes with the seasons, but its focus is always on fresh food that looks good and tastes even better, with a menu that includes a buffet-style morning and midday meal of both cold and cooked foods, and with a three-course dinner in the evening.
While the focus for Hurtigruten cruises is less on onboard activities and more on the Norwegian voyage experience, MS Nordlys provides a range of amenities and facilities for passengers to make use of. An MS Nordlys cruise also provides the opportunity for several different on-shore excursions; such as whale-watching, dog sledding, hiking and bird-watching.
A perfect place to sit and relax inside while still enjoying great views, the bar provides entertainment in the evenings. After each day's adventures, you’re sure to have some great stories to share with your fellow passengers on those cosy evenings in the MS Nordlys bar!
Small friendly ship very clean and comfortable but as a working ship should not be compared to a cruise ship. For us it was much more exciting being able to witness Norwegian life as we popped in and out of 34 ports and learnt from the well presented and informative lectures (these are what we classed as entertainment) given by the expedition team. There was plenty of very interesting extra guided tours and walks available but rather expensive as is the alcohol but you are in Norway. The biggest disappointment for us was the actual Northern Lights and coming to the realisation that the promotional pictures used to advertise this natural phenomenon are taken using the top of range cameras so in all probability the human eye will never see such colour and detail. Nevertheless the scenery, sunsets, sunrises, the fabulous food, all the helpful, friendly and happy team on board the Nordlys made our 12 day round trip a brilliantly exciting, different and unique experience. We had an Artic Superior cabin on deck 6.
