Cruising to Paraty

Situated on the coast in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Parati is a small town that has so much to offer tourists, boasting a wealth of natural attractions as well as a charming colonial centre that provides an insight into Brazilian history.

The town was first settled by the Portuguese in the 17th century, and many of the old colonial buildings still stand, so strolling around Parati is like walking through the pages of a history book - not something you'd expect to find at all beach resorts.

Saying that, the main reasons to come here are all nature-made, with the bay on which Parati is located containing around 300 islands. Taking a boat trip out to explore these is always a thrill, and with so many isolated beaches to choose from you're sure to find a memorable spot for some sunbathing.

Diving and snorkelling are extremely popular here, while the jungles around Parati are also crisscrossed with rivers that contain dramatic waterfalls. Many of these can be reached on foot, and are great places to swim and chill out.
