Holland America Westerdam - initially, a little bit aged with some things obviously worn but the cabin and ship as a whole was very comfortable, even cosy. Food was great (very good Gluten Free options for Coeliac). Staff were superb - cabin attendants were really involved, always happy to help - rated them 10/10. Restaurant servers were always really helpful & the table waiters were really chatty and helpful. Only issue was ship kept running out of bottled water, diet coke - had problem with delivery of a whole container of provisions. The itinerary was very good and the in-ship app worked well. Laundry service was excellent.
Although the client group, on the ship, were a lot older than us, and this, I feel , was reflected in the activities on which offer, the ship and overall experience was fantastic. The food was exceptional and the staff on board were so welcoming and helpful, absolutely faultless The planning of our whole trip , by planet cruise, was exceptional, we didn’t have to worry about a thing!
The holiday was excellent, 3 stars for entertainment because there was not a lot really. The dining experience was the best we have had. The Mount Fuji tour was excellent, however it seemed a bit odd to be just left at the train station at the end of it.
Overall very good trip only complaints dining room and theatre very cold, and not able to stay in there long.
Holland & America - first cruise with this company. Great staff, friendly staff who actually looked as if they enjoyed their jobs. The cabins were spotless but a bit 'tired' and no kettle in the cabin. Food quality and taste were excellent. What may seem a minor thing but not to me is that the food in the Lido (buffet area), where I ate most f the time, was NOT labelled above each dish stating what it is and if vegetarian, vegan, etc - most other cruise lines I have sailed with do this. This was a big issue for me as you cannot assume a cake or a soup or a salad is definitely meat free - and I was constantly having to ask the chef. Entertainment is subjective to taste - excellent range of bar musical entertainment in the evenings for all but the shows on the main stage were not up to the standard and variety of other cruise lines. The entertainment director though was excellent. Normal on board daily activities that you would expect but also a few lectures on the locations to be visited which were excellent and more of this would have been good. We did private excursions which were excellent so cannot review the ship excursions except to say they were much more expensive. The booking procedure with Planet Cruise was very straight forward - friendly and helpful staff - all the plans fell into place without any hitches from flights, taxis or cruise. Overall with great food, friendly staff and a great itinerary we had a great holiday.
