Italy cruises
Despite its idyllic location between the Ligurian Sea and the Alps, Savona is an often overlooked destination for tourists in Italy. At first glance it may appear to be a more industrial city due to the port facilities, yet hidden behind this facade is an elegant and well-preserved medieval centre. The Cattedrale di Nostra Signora Assunta and the ancient fortress Fortezza del Priamar are must-see sites, although perhaps the city's biggest claim to fame is that it is home to one of only two Sistine Chapels in the world, the other being in Rome. While this one is much smaller, it is nevertheless very beautiful. Savona also has its own beach just a short walk from the city centre, while the nearby harbour is the place to go for a bite to eat with a view of the expensive yachts and quaint fishing boats.
