Hurtigruten Cruises

Cruise by month

  • Overview
  • Dining

Founded in 1893, Hurtigruten is a cruise line specialising in remote coastal voyages to magnificent Norwegian towns, along with sailing through the Fjords.

Due to the smaller sizes of the 15 stylish ships, you get to see places larger ships can’t get to. Fresh cuisine is in abundance on board, and is complimented by a relaxed, intimate and casual atmosphere that often inspires people to create new friendships with fellow passengers. There is a huge selection of tours available for those wanting to visit local museums, go kayaking or even just explore the natural beauty of Norway.

Northern Lights sailings are very popular and with Hurtigruten's Northern Lights Promise you are sure to see them during your cruise. A ship alarm notifies passengers of a sighting so that nobody misses out on this amazing experience. Hurtigruten also sail to the Fjords and visit the constantly evolving scenery of the Antarctic Peninsulas. Journeys to the rest of Northern Europe, Iberia, the Mediterranean, Svalbard, Iceland, Greenland, Transatlantic & South America are also available.

If getting up, close and personal to some of the most breath-taking scenery the world has to offer is what you’re after, Hurtigruten could be the perfect cruise line for you. Just remember to pack your binoculars to take in the incredible scenery.

Guests who require the use of wheelchairs or other mobility equipment are welcome on Hurtigruten ships. You can bring your own standard size, foldable wheel chair and it is advised to travel with a partner as there will be no crew to assist in transportation.

There will be ramps for you to enter and leave the ships in all ports.

Most ships will have at least one accessible room, a request will need to be made at time of booking if you require this cabin.

Hurtigruten have a dedicated loyalty club called ‘1893 Ambassador Programme’ and welcome everyone to join. It is a complimentary membership for guests that have travelled for a minimum of three consecutive nights with Hurtigruten.

Membership benefits include 5% repeater discounts, free bicycle rental, membership card and free gifts in cabin.

Dining on Hurtigruten offers a unique experience with exquisite culinary delights, fresh ingredients and locally sourced produce.

Offering the most authentic dining at sea, Hurtigruten source many of their produce from the local ports they visit. Being Scandinavian specialists, chefs will bring out fresh lobster, prawns and other sea food right from the catching nets in Norway. They have over 200 local suppliers that source fresh produce to their fleet.

Breakfast will be buffet style and include an extensive range of meats, cheese, cereals and fruit. Lunch will see a range of meat and seafood dishes to order and dinner time will serve up a different three course meal every evening.

Gratuities/Tipping Policy

Gratuities are not included in your cruise fare and are left to your discretion. However, it is advised to tip certain members of crew based on the level of service you receive. You can do so by filling in the tips form left in your cabin and dropping it in the box at reception.

Dress Code

Dress code is informal onboard, but passengers may choose to change for dinner into casual dress, but no means formal wear. The weather in Norway and the fjords is very varied so it’s recommended that you bring plenty of layers of clothing to accommodate for this.
