Cruising from Southampton - Top Things to Do Onshore

04 May 2017 | by Nikki Osborne
Southampton is the busiest cruise hub in Britain, and serves many of the most popular cruise lines. These include P&O Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Fred. Olsen, Oceania Cruises, and Cunard, as well as six star luxury cruise lines Saga, Regent Seven Seas, and Silversea. Over the past few years Southampton has welcomed several new ships including the hugely popular, Britannia as well as the largest ship at sea, Harmony of the Seas.

Understandably keen to get onboard, many cruisers overlook the beauty of Southampton and surrounding areas as tourist destinations themselves. Set along the beautiful south coast of England, and brimming with culture and history, we’d hate for you to miss out!

Planet Cruise Weekly presenters Keith & Glen explore the exciting options available if you have a few hours to spare here, or are arriving in Southampton a day or two before you are due to embark.

Things to do in Southampton

Pre and post hotel stays

We often hear back from our customers that adding a pre or post hotel stay in Southampton, Winchester, or the surrounding areas, is the most convenient way to start or end their holiday. For some people it's necessary given how far they live from the port, but for others, they simply want to make embarkation day as stress free (and as fresh-faced!) as possible, thereby enabling them to make the most of their time onboard. There are some fantastic hotels within a short distance of the Southampton port, and our Concierge Team can assist if you are considering this option.

Take a look at the Holiday Inn in Winchester for example.

Cruise ship visits in Southampton

If you're not due to head out on a cruise from Southampton anytime soon, but are curious about the port and the town itself, a ship visit is a great excuse to make the trip. These are a fantastic option for anyone trying to decide which ship they would like to cruise on, and offer a great opportunity to get a feel for a new ship and enjoy a spot of lunch.
