My trip to the Galapagos: Day 1

12 Dec 2018 | by Steve Ward

Day 1 UK – Quito

galapagos cruise

On the first day of my adventure, my colleague Michal and I flew from London Heathrow to Amsterdam and from here across to Quito, Ecuador. This was really easy to do and everything was smooth and easy.

Once we reached the airport of Quito, we were met by a Celebrity Cruises representative, and shown to a coach to take us to the Marriot Hotel. During this transfer we were given information for the following day, which would include the walking city tour of Quito, as well as other information that might help while we were there.

Once we reached the Marriot Hotel, I couldn’t ask any more from Celebrity Cruises. My bag was taken from the coach to my room for me, and we were greeted by more Celebrity Cruise officials who gave us a local drink – Canelazo – which was very tasty. It’s a warm, alcoholic drink made with cinnamon and sugar. If you are ever in Ecuador I strongly suggest you try some.

From here we had the rest of the day and night to do as we wished. Due to the jet lag, I didn’t fancy taking on too much, so I tried a local beer called Latituo Cero and had a burger in one of the hotel restaurants. I then went to bed to prepare for the following day.

One of the really nice things about Celebrity Cruises running this trip is that there was always someone to help. Even in the hotel there is a help desk which is open until 2am in case you have any questions or queries while you are there.
