Day 3 – Quito to Galapagos with Daphne Island
Again, we had a very Ecuadorian breakfast in the morning before leaving to fly from Quito to Galapagos. This is where we were going to join the ship; Celebrity Expedition.
After roughly a one hour flight, we arrived in the Galapagos. As soon as you set foot on the islands you can tell it is a sensational place.
To join Celebrity Expedition you take a zodiac to get to the ship, each one holding about 16 people. Before even joining the ship I got to see a sea lion, iguana, and sally lightfoot crab.
After a quick embarkation, I was shown to my cabin. It was everything you would want from an exploration cruise like this. It wasn’t massive, but the window is big so you can easily see the views, and it has all the amenities you could need.
Once we joined the ship I felt much more of an explorer than a holiday cruiser. After being given a mandatory safety drill, we received our equipment for snorkelling and then got to circumnavigate Daphne Island.
Daphne Island is a satellite volcanic cone, which appeared to be home to a variety of birds. We were told we may see blue-footed boobies here, but I managed to spot quite a few Frigate Birds. They even chased the ship itself.
After this, we had a Captain’s Cocktail party and received information on the days to come, before enjoying a lovely meal in the evening.
