St Thomas is one of the US Virgin Islands and is famous for its beaches, snorkelling and beautiful weather. It is also home to Charlotte Amalie, the Virgin Island capital and the place to go to delve into the rich history of the territories, with both Fort Christian and Government House, stopping off en route to admire the tropical plants grown in the Phantasea Botanical Garden. For something a little unexpected in this Caribbean climate, the island also lays claim to one of the world’s most extensive ice sculpture collections which can be found at Magic Ice. There are of course an array of breathtaking beaches to enjoy, Magens Bay being the most popular, but to escape the masses a 10 minute ferry crossing will take you to Water Island, a lesser known Virgin Island where you can sip on a colourful cocktail in the peace and quiet.
