Mahon is the small but perfectly formed capital of Menorca and plays host to the largest natural harbour in the Mediterranean,second only in the world to Pearl Harbour. Despite its size, visitors won't be at a loss for activities with short boat trips along the coast, a quayside walk to admire the yachts moored in the harbour or a stroll along the shop-lined Carrer de Ses Moreres all being very popular choices. It is also the perfect place to enjoy a whole range of Menorcan specialities: holidaymakers can sample local cheese and charcuterie at the Mercado del Claustro del Cármen (a market located in the cloister of the largest church in Mahon), enjoy a refreshing tipple at the Xoriguer Gin Distillery, Xoriguer gin being one of the island's most famous exports, or buy a pair of avarcas- sandals which have long been a symbol of Menorca.
