MSC Cruises have revealed that they will soon be entering the luxury cruise market. Seeking to offer guests a variety of different holidays, they have decided to broaden their horizons by ordering four luxury ships, which will be built in the highly-esteemed shipbuilding yard, Fincantieri in Italy. The first of these vessels is scheduled to be delivered in spring 2023. She will offer just 500 cabins, the latest environmentally-friendly technology, and of course superb service and onboard facilities.

New from 2020, MSC's Ocean Cay

Located in the western Bahamas, just 60 miles off the coast of Miami, lays the Ocean Cay Marine Reserve, MSC's very own private island. If it's a slice of heaven that you're looking for, this corner of paradise is the perfect port of call during your Caribbean cruise. During your time here, you'll have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the natural world in an eco-friendly way, while at the same time experiencing just what the Bahamian spirit is. Boasting fun activities for all the family, a wealth of dining options and plenty of time to simply lay back on the white sand and feel the tropical sun on your skin, you'll treasure each and every minute you spend on MSC's Ocean Cay.

What to do

Being an island, Ocean Cay is of course perfect for trying your hand at a variety of watersports. Whether you'd like to stay above water on a paddle board or kayak, or you'd rather dive in and see what's waiting for you underneath the surface thanks to the snorkelling and scuba diving gear, you'll find the perfect way to explore these inviting waters.

Alternatively, if you'd like to spend your time on the island relaxing, there's more than enough opportunity to do just this. With private cabanas available for rent, sun loungers and even a spa where you can treat yourself to a massage, an afternoon of pampering is at your fingertips.

Where to eat and drink

When it comes to dining and drinking on MSC's Ocean Cay, you'll find everything from authentic Bahamian dishes to international favourites and, with five different venues to choose from, there's bound to be one that's perfect for you!

  • Seakers Buffet- an international buffet with Bahamian specialities, as well as American classics including burgers and hot dogs.
  • Lighthouse Bar- featuring drinks and live music at the base of the lighthouse, this bar is a great spot once the sun sets.
  • Springers- an authentic Bahamian bar serving all the colourful cocktails you could ask for.
  • Coffee Bar- speciality coffee served all day for those moments when you need a little kick.
  • Tiki Bars- dotted across the island, these tiki bars offer a wide range of drinks to keep you refreshed during your time on Ocean Cay.

While MSC's Ocean Cay may be great for adults it's also fantastic for families, with so many facilities even the youngest guests can make the most out of this exclusive resort:

  • Family Lagoon Beach- this beach is designated for families, meaning the kids can splash around to their heart’s content.
  • The Smiling Fish- an ice-cream parlour to help you cool down under the hot sun.
  • Lighthouse- go on an adventure with the little ones to the top of the lighthouse and be rewarded with the stunning views from the top.
  • Excursions- daily excursions are organised for all the family to enjoy, including stargazing and family rafting.

Introducing New Voice Technology: ZOE

In a bold and innovative stride of modernity, MSC Cruises have announced details of their new, in-cabin, voice-activated personal assistant: ZOE. Launching on MSC Bellissima, this fantastic piece of technology will also be found onboard MSC Grandiosa, MSC Virtuosa, and all future MSC Cruises ships. Designed to assist guests with as much as possible with their cruise, ZOE can offer information about cruise services, suggestions and advice, and can also help with booking various onboard services. She is connected to the cabin’s television, and can also be paired up with your smartphone for listening to personal music or podcasts. ZOE can be activated by simply saying ‘OK Zoe’, and then asking her just about any question regarding your cruise.

Formed in the 1970s, MSC Cruises showcased affordable European cruising vacations at affordable prices. By the Millenium, MSC had commissioned a whole host of new ships including Lirica and Opera, and now boast an impressive fleet of ships. Larger vessels such as Musica hold up to 2550 passengers – its siblings include Orchestra, Poesia and the popular Magnifica which launched in 2010, finishing off the Musica class ships. The impressive Fantasia series can hold up to 3300 passengers and supports forward-thinking features such as the award-winning Yacht Club concept, which lets passengers enjoy a more opulent holiday with an exclusive pool area, interactive centre, 4D theatre and Formula One simulator.

MSC Cruises exudes Italian style and panache. It is the leader in Mediterranean cruising, focussing on holidays for European travellers. If a trip further afield is what you’re after, they also offer voyages to a variety of destinations – MSC Divina is docked in Miami as we speak.

MSC Cruises offer fantastic fly cruises to the Mediterranean, Europe, Caribbean, Canaries, South America, Africa and the Emirates. It is family-friendly and has great facilities for infants and teenagers.
